Food demand is expected to rise some 70 percent by 2050. Agriculture accounts for 92% of humanity’s water footprint. According to Nancy Shute, foods like beef, which people crave as they become more affluent, take far more water to product than fish or plants.
Based on research conducted by NSM Research, more American consumers plan to transition from animal protein to vegetable proteins. Introducing future new foods with vegetable protein are likely to succeed on two fronts – meeting consumer demand for healthier alternative and better management of limited water resources.
Animal production requires large volume of water for feed, drinking water and maintenance.
